Fautasi: The Race for Flag Day

Samoan culture and Fa'a Samoa – the Samoan way of life – are at the heart of National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. For the people of American Samoa, the ocean is home, it is a source of sustenance, and it is a site for recreation and community. Each year on Flag Day, young men from coastal communities compete in the fautasi race, proving their courage and leadership.
