It’s not a UFO – it’s a jellyfish!

This spectacular little jelly was dubbed a “cosmic jellyfish” by researchers on the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer.

The researchers found it with a remotely operated vehicle while exploring the Utu Seamount in National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa.

The yellow part is likely its reproductive organs, while the red is its digestive system.

Two sets of tentacles help it maneuver through the water.

Expeditions with remotely operated vehicles help scientists understand more about the stranger inhabitants of your national marine sanctuaries.
