Hi, I'm Emily. I'm a grad student at CSU, Monterey Bay and I'm studying marine science.
My thesis project focuses on characterizing the deep sea floor of Greater Farallones National Sanctuary I explore the deep sea using underwater robotics such as remotely operated vehicles we look at depths that are deeper than scuba divers can go.
What we're looking for are how fish are interacting with habitats.
What the seafloor looks like.
Cause a lot of the sea in fact less than five percent has been explored.
I'm seeing footage for the first time ever that no one else in the world I get to look at rockfish and how they're associated with their habitat.
The reason why is because this information is necessary for people like the National Marine Sanctuaries staff to use in order to protect our resources like rockfish.
The Nancy Foster program has helped me accomplish my goal of conducting meaningful research that can be applied directly to the action of marine conservation.
James Lindholm has been such a huge influence in my research.
The Nancy Foster scholarship team is like family to me now and I'm so grateful for the invaluable experiences I've gained from the program.
My family has been so incredible.
Getting my masters was a huge challenge that I couldn't have done without the help of everybody.
Working with the sanctuaries has inspired me to continue exploring parts of the ocean that have never been seen before and to show the world what's down there.
