Welcome to the 2005 State of the Sanctuaries Report Web page. Each year in the State of the Sanctuaries Report, we highlight efforts by NOAA, partner organizations and local communities to protect, study and educate the public about the National Marine Sanctuary System. In addition to the story on a Florida Keys no-take reserve containing more and bigger lobster, there are more than 100 other major accomplishments featured in this report.
Please use the report outline to your left as a guide to learning about a sanctuary (e.g. Channel Islands) or topic area (e.g. Resource Protection) that interests you. So please read on and learn how national marine sanctuaries serve as major scientific, conservation and education hubs while providing recreational opportunities for millions of Americans.
