Fagatele Bay

The diverse coral reef protected within Fagatele Bay in National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa can be seen in this image. It was the first sanctuary in American Samoa, designated in 1986. In 2012, NOAA expanded the sanctuary to cover a total of 13,581 square miles of nearshore coral reef and offshore open ocean waters across the Samoan Archipelago.
