John L. Shaw

The shipwreck of the schooner John L. Shaw now rests in 128 feet of water near the southern boundary of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. It sank in a furious snowstorm in 1894. The crew abandoned ship and were adrift for several hours before rescue by a passing steamship. The shipwreck was found in 2007 by local fisherman John Gauthier.
