In 2024, the sanctuary installed moorings at 24 shipwreck sites. The moorings facilitate diving and paddling, make for safer diving, and also protect these irreplaceable historic sites from anchor damage.

The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is awarded an Ocean Exploration grant $217,000 for new field research in Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast NMS and the proposed Lake Ontario NMS.
