Chesapeake Bay SAV Watchers provides volunteers with an opportunity to collect data on submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) that is important to bay scientists and managers. Since 2022, Mallows Bay-Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary researchers have partnered with Chesapeake Bay SAV Watchers to conduct an annual survey of SAV at Mallows Bay, utilizing the help of community science volunteers.
There are two ways to get involved in SAV Watchers at the sanctuary—as an individual volunteer or through an organized group survey. To join a group survey, check our events page for more details on our next survey event. To learn more about how to submit your observations of SAV while out on the water, visit the Chesapeake Bay SAV Watchers website.
