Mission Log: July 17, 2006

Monitor National Marine Sanctuary
ARGUS was launched at about 1 a.m. and I had the chance to be in the middle of it all. From the control van and main lab I had excellent views of ARGUS going into the water. The weather is still perfect, allowing for high visibility over the shipwreck. I can't help but think of hte sailors that lost their lives in this very spot as the Monitor was sinking in 1862.
I am happy to be working on such a unique and beautiful vessel. We had two live broadcasts from the site today. I think they went OK considering I've never been the host during a live broadcast before. I hope you'll continue to follow this expedition and watch our next two short broadcasts July 18 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. EST and the full length broadcast on July 19 at 2 p.m. all accessible on www.oceanslive.org
